Terms of use
The short rules for playing Grid Gang. In force from 19 October 2026.
Prepared by Duothink Ltd following ICO and Ofcom guidance — not written by a solicitor. Last reviewed 19 October 2026. Questions: hugh.mackenzie247@gmail.com.
1. Who we are
Grid Gang (gridgang.app) is run by Duothink Ltd, a company registered in Scotland, company number SC886148, registered office Cullyblean Steading, Tullynessle, Alford, Aberdeenshire, AB33 8QR. Contact: hugh.mackenzie247@gmail.com. By using Grid Gang you agree to these terms. How we handle information is in our privacy policy.
2. Using Grid Gang
- Grid Gang is free to play. There are no accounts and nothing to buy.
- An adult runs every game. The person who hosts a game must be 18 or over — a parent, carer or teacher — and is responsible for who they let in and for using the host controls (remove, rename, mute, cartoons).
- Children may play in a game run by an adult. Teachers use Grid Gang under their school’s own rules.
- Only let in people you know. If you don’t recognise a name in the waiting room, tap No.
3. House rules
Grid Gang is for laughing with each other. When you play, please:
- be kind — the filters are for fun, not for picking on someone;
- use a name you’d be happy for a grandparent or a teacher to read;
- don’t film, photograph or share other players without their permission (and a parent’s, for a child);
- don’t make rude gestures, or say things on voice you wouldn’t say in the room;
- don’t try to break, overload, copy or get round the game’s safety features, or guess other people’s room codes.
The host can remove anyone who breaks these rules. We can block access from devices or networks that misuse Grid Gang.
4. Cameras, voice and the TV
Cameras and microphones are optional and start off; a cartoon is always one tap away. We never record video, voice or pictures. But the TV is in a real room: anyone there can see it, and anyone can take a photo of a screen with their own phone. We can’t stop that — if you’re unsure, play as a cartoon.
5. Schools
A school that uses Grid Gang decides how its pupils use it, and these same terms apply — Grid Gang is free, so there is no order form. We’ll sign a data processing agreement on request; the roles are explained in our privacy policy.
6. What’s ours
The game, its characters, filters, artwork, music and words are owned by Duothink Ltd or used with permission. You may use Grid Gang to play; please don’t copy it or use it to build your own service. Word meanings come from Princeton WordNet 3.1, used under its licence.
7. No guarantees
We work hard to keep Grid Gang running, safe and accurate, but it’s a free game provided “as it is”. It may sometimes be unavailable, video may drop back to cartoons on a slow connection, a word meaning may be wrong, and we may change or stop the game. Because it is free, we are not responsible for losses that come from using it, such as a lost game or time, except where the law says we must be. If anything we provide damages a device or other digital content you own, and that happens because we didn’t take reasonable care, you may have rights under consumer law, and we won’t try to take those away. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that the law doesn’t allow us to limit, such as for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
8. Changes
We may update these terms. We’ll change the date at the top, and for anything important we’ll put a notice on the home page.
9. The law
These terms are governed by the law of Scotland, and the Scottish courts can hear any dispute. If you live elsewhere in the UK you can still rely on your local consumer laws and bring a claim in the courts where you live.
10. Complaints and reports
If something goes wrong in a game, or you want to complain about another player, about how we run Grid Gang, or about these terms:
- During a game, the host can remove, rename or mute a player, or switch everyone to cartoons, straight away from the 👑 Host tab.
- Report a problem — the 🚩 button at the bottom of the host’s 👑 Host tab. It works even after the game has finished, and sends us no names, room code or anything about who you are.
- Email hugh.mackenzie247@gmail.com — anyone can use this, including a parent or a player who isn’t the host.
A real person reads every report and email. We aim to reply to every complaint by email within 7 days and tell you what we’ve done. We never record games, so we can’t look back at what happened — please tell us what you saw. If a child may be at risk, see what to do now. If you’re unhappy with how we handled your information, you can also complain to the ICO (see our privacy policy).
